How to import email addresses?
You can easily import your email addresses into Oempro easily from any application.
Oempro supports 3 formats:
- CSV - Comma Delimited Format (Excel, etc.)
- MySQL Database
- Email Address
You can export your members to a CSV (Comma Seperated Values) file format through your third party application (Ex: Excel) and then import them into Oempro easily.
If your email addresses are being stored on a MySQL database, you may prefer ‘MySQL’ method and import directly from third party MySQL database.
If you want to import email addresses which are in your email address mailbox at the moment, you can use the third way; importing from email address
In this post, we will describe how to import a CSV file into Oempro. We assume that your CSV file is ready to be imported.
To start importing, you need to click ‘Members > Import Members’ link in Oempro top menu:

Now, you have two way of importing a CSV file:
- By copying and pasting into text are
- Uploading the CSV file
Both options are same. So, we will go ahead with the second way and describe how to upload and import your CSV file.
Click ‘Comma Delimited File (CSV)’ link to start importing your CSV file by uploading it.

In the next screen, select the mail list(s) you want to import your email address into. You can select more than one mail list by holding Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac OS X) and clicking mail lists.
Then, it’s time to select the CSV file on your computer or enter the path where it exists on your server.
Either enter the path of your CSV file on your server or select it from your computer by clicking ‘Browse’ button. If you prefer entering the path on your server, please enter the path from the root:
Example: /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/httpdocs/emails.csv
In this example, we assume that you are going to upload it from your computer.
As the next step, you need to define your CSV file format. There are three specifications to help Oempro understand your CSV file format:
- Field Terminator Character: The character between each field
- Field Encloser Character: The character which is in the beginning and end of each field
- Line Break Character: One of the three characters which exist at the end of each line. This character may change based on the text editor you have used to generate CSV file or environment. Usually, Windows applications use CR LF, Mac OS X applications use CR, and Linux/Unix applications use LF line break character. You can find the character by try-n-see method.
Below, you can see a few examples:
‘Name’,'email@domain.com’,'28′,’Italy’
In this example, field terminator character is comma (,). The field encloser character is quote (’) and line break characer is CR since we use Mac OS X.
If the field terminator character is tab in your CSV file, just enter (T) character to set it as tab.
Next step is to set Oempro’s behavior for duplicate email addresses. You can set Oempro to just ignore them or update existing email address record with the new imported one.

And the last step before clicking ‘Proceed’ button is to set some more options:
- Validate email address format:
If this option is checked, Oempro will validate email address format of each imported member. Invalid email addresses will be removed. - Do not import black listed members:
If this option is checked, Oempro will check if the email address exists in black lists of Oempro. If it exists, it will be removed. - Do not import banned members:
Just the same as ignoring black listed members. This time, Oempro will check the email address in ban lists of Oempro. - Do not send auto responders to new members:
If this option is checked, mail list auto responders will not be triggered for new imported email addresses. - Mark members as opt-in confirmed
If this option is checked, Oempro will auto-confirm the new email address and make it ‘active’ in the mail list. If it is unchecked, Oempro will send an opt-in confirmation email to the new member. This email is defined in mail list details. If you don’t want Oempro to send opt-in confirmation email, just uncheck ‘Send Opt-In/Out email’ option.

Now, you set your CSV and import options. Click ‘Proceed’ button and Oempro will upload your CSV file to the server. Then it will show you the list of fields which exist in your CSV file and their corresponding Oempro fields. You will need to match fields to complete the import process:

As you see, Oempro displays an example line from your CSV file. Below the example file, it lists all fields which exist in your CSV file and their corresponding Oempro field options.
You need to match at least email address field. You can leave the rest by selecting ‘Do not import’ option from the list of the field.
Once you click ‘Import’ button, Oempro will start importing your members. This process may take some time depending on your CSV file size.
You may either close your browser or wait until it gets completed.
