What is local MTA?

MTA stands for Mail Transfer Agent. Local MTA is the local mail transfer agent which gets the email from the application and delivers it to the recipient mail server. If you are on a Linux/Unix server, your local MTA will be probably Qmail, Sendmail, Postfix or Exim.
